Backlit Still Life
This print started out with a quick and spontaneous pencil sketch, just focusing on shapes and their relative sizes and arrangement on the paper.
The shapes might have been clouds or foliage clusters instead of leaves, the vase might have been a house or a tree trunk. It is the somewhat curved asymmetry of the shapes filling the entire frame that creates interest.
The addition of the bizarre-looking blossoms and the backlighting gave the shapes context and turned the composition into an interior still life setting.
