I don’t think so. Black and white prints must have something special; I mean, they should not just be a depiction of a realistic scene, it’s boring.

Black & white prints should try to be expressive, dramatic, geometrically interesting, abstract, or somehow powerful. They must stand for themselves without the help of color accents, color contrast, color variations. The mere value contrast must suffice to achieve all the desired expression.

I think that’s why a good b&w print is hard to make. ‘Under Bridges’ is a good example, I think (also, check out my Loading Dock and my Fisherman).

German Expressionism produced many great black & white works.

Many of my black & White attempts go straight into the trash, by the way.
