Queensboro Bridge

Essentially an assembly of steep, slanting lines and contrasting colors and values: blue-red, white-black. 

Yes, it is a bridge (or part of one – and a real one, too) but that, in the perception of the viewer, hopefully comes after: the first ‘split second thought’ should be ‘line and color’.

[Maybe, if we could capture and preserve all the very first thoughts that go through our heads when we see an artwork for the first time, that might be a great record of what really gets through to us from an artwork, and it might also be reflective of our personality. Once that first thought is over, it is lost to us and we see the work in a different light.]

I am planning a print right now that will also focus on ‘color and line’ but it will be more abstract (or shall I say ‘concrete’). I will send you sketches […]
